Angela Brown - Jewellery Tutor

Previous Qualifications & Training:
I am a qualified Early years educator, Nursery Manager and consultant, and youth leader. Primarily I have trained with the London Jewellery School and studied at Cambridge Regional college for Creative Arts.
How did you get involved in making jewellery?
I got involved in jewellery making as a teenager discovering fimo and polymer clay spending many hours having fun enjoying the material. I recognised that jewellery is a vital part of the accessories in my appearance very early on and when my sister (Jessica Rose) started a business in jewellery I saw it as an opportunity to combine these interests. The business that Jessie started introduced me to PMC - metal clay, so after weeks of having fun and making pieces for for myself and friends, she taught me the skill of fingerprint jewellery and I worked alongside her in her first business 'Little Print'. I enjoyed it so much that I decided to develop further skills and moved on to beading where I made earrings, necklaces and bracelets daily to match my outfits, and on demand for friends and family.
Last summer I decided to change direction with my career and do something where I could be creative all the time, so i moved on from the Early Years after 15 yrs and became a Beading Teacher. This is clearly one of the best moves I have ever made and it gives me more family time and enables me to pursue my passion. I have never looked back!!
In the future I hope to achieve good strong links with women across Africa, empowering them into social change and giving them Independence through assisting them in setting up ethical businesses, buying and selling beads.
Things I have done: I used to be a youth leader for the Woodcraft Folk for many years a member of the Commonwealth Youth and the Princes Trust. Through these links I have had the privilege of working in Jamaica to develop sustainable youth groups across the island ( the country of my origin). Empowering, enabling and educating children and their families into social change and collecting funds to allow them to travel to different countries, to experience the world...
Things I do now: Inspire and empower people and help them change their life style.
My biggest achievement so far: Is with out a doubt, being a mother to 3 gorgeous little ladies, I would not change this experience for any thing in the world.
Three words that describe me: Ambitious, creative and loving
I am inspired by: The natural world, Jessica Rose and Swarovski (diamonds look beautiful, but life is far more precious!)
My favourite jeweller is: I don't really have a favourite jeweller as I like so many different pieces but I am very interested in the ethical origins of the materials and the motivation of the artist at work and variations of jewellery.
