Previous qualifications and training:
I am a PGCE qualified and experienced teacher.
I am currently focusing on my work with silver clay. I passed my Art Clay certification and completed the higher Metal Clay Diploma at the Mid Cornwall School of Jewellery. I have also achieved the Rio Rewards PMC (precious metal clay) certificate.
How did you get involved in making jewellery?:
As a child I always loved jewellery and would make bits and pieces out of whatever I had, I remember some very 'experimental' pieces made of wool! My thoughts first turned to jewellery making seriously when I visited Central St Martins on an Art trip while I was at college. I couldn't believe that you could study jewellery as a degree!
At that time I chose to study Psychology but the idea of learning how to make silver jewellery stayed at the back of my mind. I took a silversmithing course but didn't get the 'eureka' moment until I started working with silver clay. After that I was hooked!
Things I have done:
I studied Psychology at university and went on to become a qualified teacher, teaching Psychology full time for six years.
Things I do now:
I do lots of things! I am the Marketing Manager for the London Jewellery School, the Community Manager for Jewellers Academy and teach part time. I have my own website (www.acampbell.info) and sell my jewellery on Etsy under the shop name Light Boat.
My biggest achievement so far:
I’ve been fortunate to have been commissioned to make silver jewellery for famous customers. I’ve made silver pendants and cufflinks for actors, actresses, a composer and a supermodel. I'm also excited to have been commissioned to write tutorials and articles for different publications including a front cover piece for Making Jewellery magazine.
Things I hope to achieve in the future:
I am working on building up my online business and developing more ranges.
I am also continuing to improve my skills by attending master classes; I very much believe in the mantra ‘I am always learning’
Three words that describe me:
Thoughtful, positive, committed
I am inspired by:
The amazing work being made out of metal clay. As it is such a new material we are only now seeing people becoming real experts in its use. We are very lucky to be living in this age of connection via the Internet so that we can document this and see it unfolding and take inspiration from people we may never meet.
My favourite jeweller is:
So difficult to choose! There are many talented artisans but I choose Joy Funnell for her use of enamel with silver clay
