Diploma in Jewellery Design & Business (20 Weeks)
Diploma in Jewellery Design and Business
Unlike our very hands-on, making-based Diploma in Creative Jewellery, this Diploma is all about learning to become a jewellery designer, the process and techniques behind design and the ins and outs of building a robust and established jewellery business.
This diploma is taught by some of London's leading design and jewellery business experts including designer jewellers; Rebecca Steiner, Caren Hartley, Hayley Kruger and Rosie Sanders to name a few, as well as multi-award winning entrepreneur and founder of the London Jewellery School Jessica Rose.
The course is structured in two terms (of 10 weeks each, one teaching day per week) with the first term focusing on jewellery design, which covers everything from brainstorming, drawing, basic making techniques for design, mould making and the development of a design portfolio. By the end of the course each student will submit a design portfolio which will be marked, followed by a feedback session from the marking tutor.
The second term moves on to an in-depth look at practical business skills and knowledge for running a jewellery business (or supporting a business as an entrepreneurial employee if you are working in this field). This covers everything from building a concept and unique vision to set your business apart from the rest, the legalities of running a business, insurance, copyright and protection, marketing, pricing and selling, finance and forecasting for profits and much more. (see full breakdown below).
Who is the course for?
No previous experience is needed in jewellery making, design or business skills, however, any experience you do have will only add to the speed in which you can progress with your learning. The Diploma is designed for students who want to set up a jewellery business, work in the field and take an entrepreneurial approach to working in the jewellery industry or anyone looking to develop their skills in jewellery design and business for personal use.
Some basic jewellery making skills are covered in the course but it it not a focus and the key aim is to understand the making process in order to support your design skills. It would therefore suit those who already have technical skills in jewellery making or those who don't want to actually make the jewellery themselves but design it and run the business, commissioning others or involving manufacturers for the making stage. Like all London Jewellery School courses, everyone is welcome and an eagerness to learn and develop is the only pre-requisite for this Diploma.
