Make a Statement Fashion Necklace
Follow our 6-step intermediate project to making you own statement fashion necklace...
You will need:
Beads; Blue Agate, gold beads, large turquoise beads, oval lapis and brown beads
1m of medium sized gold plated chain
10cm of larger gold plated chain
1mm gold plated wire
Small gold plated crimps
8 x gold plated small tubes or tube beads
Gold plated large s-shaped clasp
Chain nosed pliers
Round nosed pliers
Flat nosed pliers
Thread your large turquoise beads on to a single strand of tigertail. At one end thread on a small gold plated crimp and thread the tigertail back through the crimp to create a small loop, squash the crimp shut using your chain-nosed pliers. Repeat this process at the other end of the strand of beads, making sure it is not to tightly strung.
Repeat this whole process with all 5 strands of beads.
Cut 25cm of 1mm gold plated wire and using your chain nosed pliers make a swirl at one end. Repeat this process so that you have two pieces of gold plated wire with equal sized swirls on one end. Separately, layout all of your threaded strands of beads in order of how they sit in the finished piece and check they are all the correct size. You will be using the loops at each end to thread them onto the wires.
Thread the following items on to each piece of wire towards the swirl; one end of a 20cm piece of gold chain, a 25cm piece of gold chain (use the same chain on each side), the brown bead strand, 1 gold bead, 1 gold tube, the lapis strand, 1 gold bead, 1 gold tube, 1 gold bead, the large turquoise strand, 1 tube bead, 1 gold bead, the gold bead strand, 1 tube bead, the blue agate strand and finally the other end of the first piece of 20cm gold chain.
Take the end of the gold plated 1mm wires and make a swirl to match the original swirl on the other end of the wire. Then using your chain nosed pliers bend the whole swirl back towards the beads so that it sits on-top of the end beads. Repeat this with the other three swirls on the piece.
You should now have the completed bottom part of the neckpiece and have a loop of 20cm gold plated chain at the top of each side. To add some more sparkle, attach a row of the blue agate round beads to the chain on each side using a piece of 1mm gold plated wire approx 7cm long. Loop the wire at each end to attach it to the chain.
Attach the larger gold plated chain to the center of the 20cm chain attached on each side of the neckpiece. This is done using your flat and chain nosed pliers to open one of the links and closing it once the smaller chain is attached. And finally attach your s-shaped clasp in the centre at the back to finish.
