Mixed Media Jewellery (2 days)
Perspex, Wood, Metal
Beginners / All levels
As a versatile natural material, wood lends itself to a vast range of decorative techniques and is a beautifully sculptural medium to work in.
This 2-day course provides an overview of both craft and fashion jewellery techniques. Perspex is a brand of acrylic plastic that is often used as a substitute for glass. It comes in a rigid sheet and can be pierced or laser cut and bent using heat. Available in a wide variety of colours and finishes there’s almost no limit to what you can make.
Students can experiment with a range of exotic hard woods, perspex and base metal. Students can expect to design and produce one to two pieces and will have the opportunity to include found objects to their designs.
Techniques covered in this class include:
Sawing wood and Perspex
Piercing base metal
Filing, sanding and polishing
Cold Connections and gluing
Heat forming Perspex
Polishing and preservative treatments for wood
Students usually make 1-2 pieces of unique jewellery to take away.
What you need to bring to this class:
For this class you don't need to bring anything but yourself as everything is provided. However, it is a good idea to think about what you would like to make and bring any ideas you have; pictures, sketches or pieces you like. Don't worry if you don't have a project in mind as we have plenty of inspiration around our workshop too.
As with all of our classes, all materials are included in the cost of the class as well as plenty of tea, coffee and luxury biscuits! The classes are all run by expert tutors with years of professional experience who are friendly, knowledgeable and approachable. The size of the classes is kept small to allow plenty of one-on-one attention and the maximum number of students for this class is 8.
We take an hour break for lunch and there are plenty of local shops to get food from, or you can always bring a packed lunch to eat in the studio. If you have any questions regarding this, or other courses please don't hesitate to get in touch.
