Resin and Silver Jewellery
Learn to make beautiful jewellery using resin and silver. In this class you will experiment with the use of resins and how they can be used to add colour and style to silver pieces. This technique is also often referred to as cold enameling.
This is an fun and experimental 1-day class where you will design and make a piece of silver jewellery and incorporate the use of resin in the design to make a stunning finished piece. If you have never made silver jewellery before you will be encouraged to make a simple piece in which resin can be used and those students who have worked in silver before will be able to make more complex pieces.
If you have worked with silver before and have some of your own pieces that you would like to add resin to then please feel free to bring them along. However don't worry if you have never made jewellery before as this is a beginners level class and we will provide everything you need.
This class will cover the making of silver pieces and you will be taught how to mix resins and use them to add colour to silver and create unique pieces of jewellery in your own style.
Techniques covered in this class include:
- Designing resin and silver pieces
- Making silver jewellery with areas for resin to be poured
- Mixing resin
- Adding colours and mixing your own colours
- embeding objects such as, buttons, pictures, stickers, feathers, flowers, writing, gold leaf and much more
And much more.
You will leave at the end of the day having made lovely resin and silver piece (s). Please note that most resins we use take 24 hours to set so you can either take them home on the day very carefully of we can post them to you once they have fully set. Either way you will have a beautiful creation to keep.
All of the resins that we use in our classes are low-odor and low toxic, they are also easy to use at home if you want to carry on making after the class. There will always be the option to wear a mask when working with the resins.
Your tutor for this class is designer jeweller Michael Milloy who also teaches our resin jewellery 2-day class and uses resin in some of his work. To find out more about Michael please visit our staff and tutors page.
What you need to bring to this class:
For this class you don't need to bring anything but yourself as everything is provided. However, it is a good idea to think about what you would like to make and bring any ideas you have; pictures, sketches or pieces you like. Don't worry if you don't have a project in mind as we have plenty of inspiration around our workshop too.
As with all of our classes, all materials are included in the cost of the class as well as plenty of tea coffee and luxury biscuits! The classes are all run by expert tutors with years of professional experience who are friendly, knowledgeable and approachable. The size of the classes is kept small to allow plenty of one-on-one attention and the maximum number of students for this class is 8.
We take an hour break for lunch and there are plenty of local shops to get food from, or you can always bring a packed lunch to eat in the studio. If you have any questions regarding this, or other courses please don't hesitate to get in touch.
