Class Description
Learn to set stones in a 'channel setting' - a setting commonly used to set multiple stones along a strip of material, either across a pendant or around a ring. The class will really expand your stone setting ability and add a new setting technique to your repertoire. Students will make a channel set ring with at least 1 stone set in it to take away with them and will be able to create channel settings for different sized stones. This is a perfect follow on from our collet or grain setting classes.
PLEASE NOTE: We recommend that all students complete the two day stone setting class and soldering masterclass before taking this class or that you are confident in the basic stone setting techniques of creating a rub over cabochon setting and ideally tube and gypsy settings too. As this is an advanced silver class and we recommend that students are familiar with silver jewellery making and are comfortable using hand tools in a workshop environment.
What you will learn on the class:
Assessing a stone for channel setting
How to prepare the setting for channel setting
Preparing the setting using burrs and setting tools and cutting the seat
Setting the stone
Finishing to setting to a professional finish
