Wood is a versatile natural material that can be manipulated to produce both delicate and large-scale contemporary jewellery. As a material, wood lends itself to a vast range of decorative techniques and is a beautifully sculptural medium to work in.
This one-day introduction provides an opportunity for students to experiment with a range of tools and preservative treatments. Students can expect to design and produce one to two pieces each, ranging from pendants and earrings to brooches and cufflinks. Using tools and techniques suitable for the home or small workshop, students will get lots of ideas and inspiration in order to kick start their own practice.
Techniques covered in this class include:
• Transferring designs
• Drilling & sawing
• Filing & sanding
• Shaping and texturing
• Basic wire & attaching findings
• Using adhesives for wood and metals
• Polishing and preservative treatments
What you need to bring to this class:
