As a versatile natural material, wood lends itself to a vast range of decorative techniques and is a beautifully sculptural medium to work in.
This one-day introduction provides an overview of both craft and fashion jewellery techniques. Students have the opportunity to experiment with a range of exotic hard woods, carving, inlay tools and techniques.
Students can expect to design and produce three to four simple pieces including pendants, rings, earrings, brooches and cufflinks.
Techniques covered in this class include:
• Transferring designs
• Drilling & sawing
• Filing & sanding
• Shaping and texturing
• Silver pique and wire inlay
• Basic wire & attaching findings
• Using adhesives for wood and metals
• Polishing and preservative treatments
Using tools and techniques suitable for the home or small workshop, students will get lots of ideas and inspiration in order to kick start their own practice.
