Step-by-step tutorial: Cabochon Flower Earrings

DIY_Cabochon_Flower_Earrings_Tutorial
The guide to making these pretty Cabochon Flower Earrings, was orginally published on our sister blog JewelryFromHome. It use cabochons, which are flat backed stones, mounted onto discs to give a pretty bohemian feel. This project uses ready made cabochons but you could make your own in fused glass or resin.
The best part of this tutorial is the simplicity, they take about 15 minutes to make but deciding on the color combinations takes a lot longer. We used a mix of semi-precious, resin and crystal beads to compliment the floral cabochons.

Materials – Earring hooks, eye pins, head pins, 25 x 18mm cabochons, 25 x 18mm cabochon mounts (we got our cabochons and cabochon mounts from eBay), contrasting coloured beads, super glueDIY_Cabochon_flower_earrings_steps

Step 1. Glue your cabochons to the cabochon mounts and leave to dry

Step 2. Whilst your cabochons are drying prepare your stones. For the end bead thread your bead onto a head-pin and make a loop – see the  Jewelry Making for Absolute Beginners tutorial for details. For the top bead thread bead onto a head pin  and make a loop to close.

Step 3. Fix your beads together and add your earring hook. You might need to twist the direction of the loops on the eye pin so that the earring falls in the right direction, Hayley our Introduction to Fashion Jewelry teacher shows you how on the course.

Step 4. Make more. If your base bead has an eye at the top rather than a channel running through attach to the cabochon using a 5mm jump  ring.
