PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS A 2- DAY CLASS AND TAKES PLACE OVER 2 CONSECUTIVE WEEKS
Wax carving is a fantastic skill for jewellers to have to make more organic jewellery.
The process of wax carving jewellery starts with the wax piece being made. This is taken to a caster where a mould is made, melting the wax and pouring molten silver or gold in to make a solid metal version of your wax jewellery.
The course will cover the following:
Week 1 – Beginners Wax Carving (you will complete a piece in wax during this class and we will send this to be cast in metal by week 2)
Week 2 – Intermediate Wax Carving (you will get your cast piece back and will be shown how to take the sprue off and polish your jewellery before moving onto making an Intermediate level piece)
In the class, all students will learn to carve and shape the wax into different shapes and design whole pieces of jewellery in wax. Students will be able to make a number of designs throughout the course as well as learning the techniques.
Topics and areas usually covered in this class include:
- Designing for wax caving (Beginners and Intermediate level)
- Qualities and properties of different forms of wax
- Using wax carving tools to achieve your designs
- Making finished wax carved masters ready to cast
- How to cut off sprue and clean up castings
- Full information on how and where to get your wax pieces cast locally and affordably and much more...
The course price includes 1 x casting in sterling silver.
You will leave at the end of the course with at least 1 finished piece of jewellery plus multiple other wax pieces. Your tutor will give you full information about casting companies that you can use to have your wax cast into gold or silver.
Note: these can be posted so don't worry if you're not based in London.
