Are there any items or materials you'd love to incorporate in your jewellery making but you can't work out how? When soldering is not possible cold connections are the way to join different materials together.
This is a great way of adding versatility and flexibility to your work and will also allow you to work with many more materials.
Techniques covered in this class include:
- The use of screws, rivets and tabs to join different materials
- Deciding which cold connections are best for your design
- Incorporating cold connections into your work
Some examples of using cold connections in jewellery include; joining glass or fabric to silver using rivets, encasing a shell in metal using tabs or attaching a stone to a ring with screws.
The possibilities are endless and the skills learnt in this class will allow you to combine your existing skills in working with silver jewellery with a full range of materials from glass and fabric to stones, shells, pearls, beads and much more.
One of our expert tutors will guide you through the techniques from start to finish and our small class sizes allow plenty of individual attention ensuring you get the most out of the day. You will be encouraged to try new techniques and although the aim of the class is not necessary to make finished pieces, you will leave with a range of samples displaying the techniques you have learnt.
What you need to bring to this class:
For this class, you don't need to bring anything but yourself as everything is provided.
However, if you have any particular pieces that you have been working on or would like to learn to connect without the use of heat then please do bring them along and the tutor will be able to advise you on how this may be done.
This is an advanced level class and you need to have attended a Beginners Silver Jewellery and Soldering masterclass or have equivalent skills in order to follow at this level.

As with all of our classes, all materials are included in the cost of the class as well as plenty of tea, coffee and luxury biscuits! The classes are all run by expert tutors with years of professional experience who are friendly, knowledgeable and approachable. The size of the classes is kept small to allow plenty of one-on-one attention and the maximum number of students for this class is 8.
We take an hour break for lunch and there are plenty of local shops to get food from, or you can always bring a packed lunch to eat in the studio. If you have any questions regarding this, or other courses please don't hesitate to get in touch.
