A lot of jewellery classes focus on making technique so this is the class for you if you would like to spend some time working on your design technique.
This 6 week evening course is specially for beginners to jewellery design as we will give you the tools and techniques to turn your ideas into skilled and professional looking jewellery designs.
Design is one of the most important aspects of making jewellery, yet it is often overlooked or just assumed that it is something you can simply come up with.
Over the six weeks of this evening class you will learn how to create mood boards and use them to influence your designs, sketch jewellery pieces more confidently, turn ideas into workable designs, decide on materials and create accurate technical drawings of your designs.
You will also learn about collecting inspiration and you'll be encouraged to start your own design scrapbook at home to kick-start your new collection.
What you will learn:
Week 1 – You will start with gathering inspiration and creating a mood board to encourage you to focus on design, colours and style and help you visualise who might wear your jewellery
Week 2 – Taking inspiration from your mood board you will work on design development
Weeks 3 & 4 – Jewellery Design. Over 2 classes you will learn how to make basic design sketches and various methods of using inspiration from photographs, magazines and the world around you to create jewellery designs. The classes will also look at the key elements of a design and choosing the right materials for your idea
Weeks 5 & 6 – Technical Drawing. Learning the basic techniques of mapping out and creating high quality black and white outline drawings from different angles to provide either to your customers, jewellers for manufacturing or as part of your own design portfolio
This class runs from 6.30pm-9pm once a week from the start date for six consecutive weeks. Please note: classes do go ahead on bank holidays.
What you need to bring to this class:
For this class you don't need to bring anything but yourself as everything is provided. However, you may want to bring some images that inspire you and a sketchbook if you have one.

As with all of our classes, all materials are included in the cost of the class as well as plenty of tea, coffee and luxury biscuits! The classes are all run by expert tutors with years of professional experience who are friendly, knowledgeable and approachable. The size of the classes is kept small to allow plenty of one-on-one attention and the maximum number of students for this class is 8.
